Movie: The Incredible Mr. Limpett

Starring: Don Knotts, Carole Cook, Andrew Duggan, Jack Weston, Larry Keating

This is a early Warner Brothers movie combinin live-action and animation and done quite well. After watching it again, I was taken by some of the puns that I hadn't noticed in (much) earlier viewing.

Don Knotts is perfectly cast as Mr. Limpett, a very mild-mannered wannabe hero. In this story, though his "hero-ism" happens unexpectedly, Mr Limpett takes it with grace. The time period of this movie is WWII but isn't the normal WWII-type movie.

This is a definite MUST-SEE for ALL ages!!

Book: True Women by Janice Woods Windle

This is a very good fiction book based loosely on fact. The main characters are the ancestor's of the author. The setting for the book is in Texas, time period begins with the Texas War for Independence going forward through WWII and shortly thereafter.

Ms. Windle seems to spend the majority of the book with the deveopment and growth of Euphemia, the first main character. Euphemia pulled this reading into the story thoroughly. I must admit to sadness when it was time to move on in time. Sequential characters, while not as well defined, add interest and sauciness to the novel.

In general, this is a good read and I recommend a good sit-down with it.

Movie: Australia starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman

This movie was rather long in comparison to the average movie. It unfortunately dragged in spots. The movie did have some cute moments, some sweet moments, some scary moments and some oh my moments.

Ms. Kidman was her usual perfection in her role. Mr. Jackman was his usual perfection in his role. Frankly, he could just stand there for 2 hours and I'd be happy (okay, I'm old, I'm single, but I can look can't I?).

Australia was set around 1939 to 1942, or so. It included bits about how the area was affected by WWII and bits about the white/aboriginal issues of the time. Although there was a hint of a statement about the civil rights of the time, it wasn't the focus of the movie. The focus was the love story of Ms Kidman's role (Sarah Ashley), Mr. Jackman's role (The Drover), and their mutual love for a little boy that was a "half-caste." The scenery was magnificent, the animals were wondrous.

I will recommend this movie, but be prepared to get up to get popcorn in the "draggy" spots.

Book: The Killer Angels by Michael Shaara

This is a book about Gettysburg in the Civil War. It concentrates on the 1863 battle. I especially enjoy reading different points of view, both from characters of the North and of the South.

Mr. Shaara has done his research well and knows the vital characters well. His writing allows the reader to feel he is there, watching, feeling, smelling, experiencing the battle and the hopes, fears, desperation, and thrill of the battle is felt by the reader. Reading the descriptives of the scenery, the weather, the smells, and the battles helps the reader picture what is happening. This is fiction but is based heavily on fact.

I cannot express enough my feelings when reading. I'm a Civil War buff to begin with, so of course I'm going to read the book. I do feel that those who aren't as drawn to the era and battles as I am will thoroughly enjoy this book.

I highly recommend this book for all.

Introduction - Just a start

As I read a book or watch a movie, I've decided to give a little review of it. I'm not a professional reviewer by any means. I'm a mom, grandmother, furry mama. I love to read and love to watch movies. I like most genres, but tend to stick closer to historical, classical, and just plain funny. I also enjoy musicals (**sigh** Fred Astaire never got to dance with me **sigh**).

If you have a book or movie you'd like me to review, send it to me LOL! I'm game if you are!

I won't stick to the newer books and movies, although some of those will get my attention. I'll check out some of the older books and movies and review those. After all, just because it came out over 6 months, 6 years, or 16 years ago doesn't mean it ain't worth watching or reading. So check back for reviews and don't forget to let me know if there's something you'd like to see reviewed
